My History in Review

Jun 19, 2021 | General

I am from Venezuela with 25 years on my back and currently living in Switzerland. My history has been pretty crazy, and I would love to tell you about it!

Since I was little, I have been a passionate lover of the IT world. Initially motivated by my Father, watching him for hours and hours solving algorithms and creating programs in my very first programming language: VB6.

With time, I entered the university to study Computer Science. Very motivated to learn I ran into the first problem: the poor educational system in Venezuela. The first years were very demotivating, I was hardly enthusiastic to continue my degree since one year at university meant at most a month from home to learn CS.

Maths, algebra, and programming were what kept me going to college, and by the time I had done all of them, I found myself hitting rock bottom. Besides other personal problems and the problematic situation in Venezuela, I decided then, to withdraw from the university and not continue with the suffering.

Since then, I have touched a great variety of languages and paths, developing my capacity for self-learning more and more. From bots that extract information and make automatic payments (bypassing captchas) to desktop software in Java and C #. It was my passion at the time, and web programming and design were not my styles at all.

It was then that I began to be curious about what I could do in the world of web development. I quickly realized that this area was huge and that, despite my wealth of knowledge at this time (poor me), I still had a lot to learn. The back-end always appealed more to me during my studies. Until I really started to understand front-end better (or at all). I suddenly couldn't keep my hands off it.

The first framework that I used to investigate web development was Django. How easy that would be, I thought, but the story was very different. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, APIs, Routing, security, protocols (thanks to CISCO for having contributed), among a host of other things. I was a bit stunned, to tell the truth.

My learning curve was incredibly low, I was studying a lot of things, but I didn't have a path to follow. I then discovered the different careers in the web world, among others Front End / Back End Developer & Full Stack Developer. After a lot of thought and many studies and analysis, I made my choice to go for Front End Developer, but always with the desire to connect my previous knowledge.

ReactJS, the perfect option to realize endless things with just one language (JavaScript), almost without limits. Just as I had wished.

Since then, I have stayed with React, and not to forget GatsbyJS that is, without any doubt, one of the most powerful frameworks that currently exist. Their work has been an inspiration for other giants in the web world.

My passion as a Front End Web Developer was united with UI / UX Design. I quickly realized how important it was to design for and with the user. The challenge for me was to present a design in a minimalist and clear way, with what the user actually needs and without an excess of pop-ups and extravagant, complicated menus.

Through inspiring thinkers who have chosen to stand out from the great masses, and because of my own experiences and the being I am, I want to constantly evolve today and in the future. To invent new things, to make mistakes - even if I might repeat them thousand times and to learn from everything and everyone: the world, life, nature, being and living in what I see, to return, to be "me" and then to become nobody.

Thank you for reading, and I am very much looking forward to hearing from you, there is always time for good peer groups to grow!
